Does anyone else hate the expression New Year, New You?
Updated: Mar 4, 2021
New Year, New You runs across so many adverts, filling my feeds and really bugging me every time I see it.
I think the real reason I find it so annoying is that we cannot (and really shouldn’t) ever flick a switch and totally change everything. Ok… perhaps smoking is the one thing you do need to stop and “go cold turkey”. However, for everything else you need a plan and incremental changes in all areas, rather than sweeping changes across everything.
Why not New Year, Better You?
Think about it – what is more likely to improve you in the long term?
Small improvements across all areas of your life, plus that one goal that stretches you and you really want to achieve in 2021.
Or…
A month where you start a new diet, quit smoking, quit drinking, exercise everyday like a mad thing, start doing affirmations, meditate, do yoga, perform breathing exercises, learn a new language, sign up to a marathon, read a book, watch less tv… I'm exhausted just writing the list!
It’s not hard to imagine which of the above options you will stick to, and which you will get bored of by January 10th!
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a wonderful way to achieve measurable change and performance improvement in your life. It can help you identify those small improvements and stick to them… which in turn will allow you to achieve the rest over time.
Personally, I am eating “a little healthier”, I have increased exercise about 10% and for my stretch goal I am doing dry January. How about you? Are your goals reasonable, what are you adding and will you stick to it? What are the marginal gains you are hoping to achieve that will create a better you rather than a new you?
If you fancy a free Initial Consultation to see how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you identify and achieve reasonable goals in 2021 do let me know.
